We've heard from many of you that there is a lack of information on the patent databases that are available out there. We have started this page to help you. This page landscapes patent information tools to make your work efficient. If you know of any useful resources that we have missed, do let us know.

  • Patent Office Databases

    • European Patent Office - esp@cenet
      Allows users to search for patents filed worldwide, including international (PCT), European, U.S, as well as various other national patent databases
    • WIPO Patentscope
      A database allowing users to search international patent applications and the latest information and documents available to WIPO, including national phase data
    • U.S patents database
      Provides access to patents in the U.S
    • European Patent Office - epoline
      Provides the prosecution history of European Patent Applications. Users are required to register for a free log-in and password before obtaining access to 'Register Plus', which gives the history of a particular patent
    • USPTO - pair
      Allows users to obtain the file wrapper (prosecution history) for more recent U.S patent applications
    • SIPO - Chinese Patent Office Patent Search
      This link allows users to search the Chinese patent register in English
    • IP Australia - Patsearch
      Allows users to search patents in Australia
    • Canadian Patent Database
      Allows users to search for patents filed in Canada using basic, boolean or advance search fields
    • DEPATISnet
      German Patent database provided by the German Patent and Trademark Office
    • Brazilian Patent Database
      Search fields available include application number, title of the patent, applicant and inventor. The database is only available in Portuguese.
    • Philippines Patent Office
      Provides basic and advanced search options, including keyword and boolean searching in more than one field.
    • UK Intellectual Property Office
      Provides basic search functions for searching patents filed in the UK, or the option of searching through Espacenet. Also includes the option of searching new publications as well as freedom to operate and patent validity searches from the Office.
    • IMPI - Institute of Mexican industrial Property
      Banapanet allows users to search by various options including title of an invention, inventor or by priority/application/publication number. All titles and text are in Spanish.
    • Indian Patent Office - Granted Patents Database
      Allows users to search for abstracts of recently granted patents in India. Search fields available include, Applicant Name, Title, Abstract, Inventor Name, Application Number and Patent Number
    • Indian Patent Office - Published Patent Database
      Allows users to search for patents published in India after 18 Months for opposition.

    • Minesoft - FDA Orange Book
      A free resource directly linking FDA approved drugs in the Orange Book and related patents filed at the USPTO
    • US FDA Orange Book
      Provides access to approved drugs in the U.S and their related patents
    • India Big Patents
      Database of published and granted patents in India, but not including specifications and claims
    • Cambia Patent Lens
      Worldwide patent search database, including PDF versions of the specifications
    • FreePatentsOnline
      Free searching and related analytical data for US/European patents
    • Patent Alert
      Provides free subscription and email alerts for newly filed U.S patents, including for HIV/AIDS and other drugs
    • PriorSMart
      A patent search database for over 60 countries
    • Chinese Patent Information Centre
      A patent search tool for Chinese patents including boolean and advanced search fields and the ability to download the text of published patents
    • Google Patents
      Searches for U.S patents, including an advanced search field

    • Delphion
      Provides patent information in over 40 countries. Information includes patent families and their legal staus in countries such as Mexico, Brazil and China, corporate trees for assignees and PDF patent specifications
    • Patent Cafe
      Provides international patent search facility and patent quality analysis reports
    • Dolphin
      Database covering patents relating to pharmaceutical and biotech patents
    • Micropatent
      Provides patent search facility and file histories for US patents
    • Drug Patent Watch
      Provides information on FDA approved drugs and their patent expirations
    • Minesoft
      Provides various patent information products, including international patent search and patent tracker to track status of patent applications in certain countries
    • IMS Patent Focus
      Patent Focus shows the product patent position for over 1200 drugs on the market and in active R&D. Information includes patent families, synonyms of INNs, marketing phase, chemical name, patent type and a brief summary of what the patent claims.
    • Derwent World Patent Index
      Provides global patent information for a number of countries including China, India, Mexico and South Africa
